CMMC Level 2 is bound to NIST SP 800-171 Rev. 2 today: 32 CFR 170.14(c)(3) states that the CMMC Level 2 security requirements are identical to the requirements in NIST SP 800-171 R2.

The Department of Defense's own analysis put a Level 2 certification at $104,670 over three years for a small contractor (DoD CMMC Regulatory Impact Analysis, pages 13 to 14), almost all of it staff and outside labor, and that figure excludes the cost of implementing the controls (pages 15 to 16). A consultant delivers a point-in-time assessment that ages as your environment changes, and a refresh is another engagement. Readiness software holds the documentation while your team does the refresh. Common questions

Does readiness software replace the C3PAO assessment?

No. A Level 2 certification assessment is conducted by a C3PAO authorized or accredited by the CMMC Accreditation Body (32 CFR 170.17); a Level 2 self-assessment is your own (32 CFR 170.16). Readiness work gets you to either one prepared: measured, remediated in the right order, and with the evidence assembled.

What does Agent as a Service (AaaS) mean?

You are not buying a dashboard to operate. AI agents perform the measurement and document preparation, and your Affirming Official makes every affirmation decision. The deliverables arrive drafted, instead of arriving as software you must learn.
